DataProcessing

At Dartmouth College, we implement several parsing programs for different data formats, e.g., syslog, SNMP, and tcpdump. Parsing programs take raw traces as input, and extract only the parts interesting for the research purpose, e.g., usage characterization, mobility modeling, etc. The extracted parts are then fed to several analysis programs, which depend on the research purposes. For instance, to make temporal analysis of active wireless users, a parsing program may extract from the traces at least timestamp and wireless user identifiers (e.g., MAC address of wireless card), from which an analysis program may produce some summary reports on e.g., number of active wireless users per day.
