There are several wireless network data collection mechanisms: syslog, SNMP, tcpdump sniffing, and so on.

The description of each mechanism in the following is based on our measurement experience at Dartmouth College: we collected data about Dartmouth's entire campus-wide wireless network, which reaches to nearly every Dartmouth-owned building and outdoor space, and some neighboring private residences and businesses.

  1. syslog: how to collect syslog traces
  2. SNMP: how to collect SNMP traces
  3. tcpdump: how to collect tcpdump traces
