At Dartmouth College, we poll every wireless access point every 5 minutes using the SNMP protocol to send queries to the access point and to receive replies. We collect overall traffic statistics about the number of bytes, frames, or error frames, both inbound and outbound. We also collect a list of currently associated devices (by MAC and IP address) and their individual traffic statistics (bytes in and out, frames in and out, error and duplicate frames in and out, signal strength, and status of power-save mode). We collect SNMP data from every wireless access point.
